La comisión investigadora especial de la criptomoneda Libra aprobó este martes la citación al presidente Javier Milei para que brinde explicaciones presenciales sobre su presunta participación en la promoción del token que derivó en una estafa masiva a miles de usuarios en Argentina y otros países.
El escándalo que sacude al Gobierno
La decisión se tomó luego de que el mandatario ignorara dos oficios previos en los que se le pedía responder por escrito a las acusaciones. La comisión Libra, integrada por diputados de distintos bloques, busca esclarecer la implicación del presidente en la difusión pública del proyecto que explotó mediáticamente el 14 de febrero pasado, cuando miles de pequeños inversores denunciaron haber sido estafados.
Los legisladores de la oposición sostienen que Milei avaló indirectamente la operación a través de declaraciones y entrevistas, dando confianza a una criptomoneda que luego se desplomó.
Las declaraciones que encendieron la polémica
Durante una entrevista con Jonatan Viale el 17 de febrero, Milei restó importancia a la magnitud del fraude:
“¿Perdió el Estado acá? Nada. ¿Perdieron plata los argentinos? Tengo mis serias dudas. No creo que sean más de cinco argentinos. De los 5.000 damnificados, la gran mayoría son estadounidenses y chinos”, afirmó.
Sin embargo, esa versión fue desmentida por la plataforma Ripio, una de las exchanges involucradas en la comercialización del token. En su respuesta formal a la comisión, la empresa informó que 1.358 usuarios residentes en Argentina realizaron operaciones con Libra, de los cuales 1.329 eran argentinos.
“Los dichos del presidente no se condicen con la evidencia documental”, sostuvo Juan Marino, secretario de la comisión (Unión por la Patria), quien propuso citarlo para que “aclare cómo obtuvo esa información” y si “ratifica o rectifica afirmaciones evidentemente falsas”.
Más nombres bajo la lupa
La comisión también aprobó nuevas medidas de prueba: pedirá a las principales exchanges información sobre si Javier Milei, Karina Milei, Manuel Adorni, José Luis Espert, Martín Menem, Agustín Laje y la Fundación Faro poseen billeteras digitales registradas, y los movimientos realizados entre julio de 2024 y la fecha.
Asimismo, se solicitó auxilio de la fuerza pública para garantizar la comparecencia de Karina Milei, el asesor económico Damián Reidel y los empresarios Mauricio Novelli, Manuel Terrones Godoy y Sergio Morales, señalados como partícipes en la operatoria.
También fueron citadas la hermana y la madre de Novelli, quienes —según la investigación— vaciaron cajas de seguridad días después del lanzamiento de Libra.
Movimientos millonarios bajo investigación
La comisión informó que ya remitió a la Justicia los registros de transacciones obtenidos de distintas plataformas, donde se detectaron movimientos millonarios vinculados a Terrones Godoy, considerado uno de los principales responsables de la organización.
El presidente de la comisión, Maximiliano Ferraro, aseguró que el avance de la causa es “irreversible”:
“Estoy seguro de que, por más que algunos intenten frenarla, la verdad sobre Libra va a conocerse”.
Un golpe político en la recta final
La citación a Milei llega en un momento políticamente delicado, a solo días de las elecciones legislativas, y promete abrir un nuevo frente de conflicto entre el oficialismo y la oposición.
El caso Libra, que comenzó como una supuesta innovación financiera, se convirtió en una bomba política y judicial que podría comprometer al propio presidente y a su círculo más cercano.
