El ministro Lugones enfrenta críticas por la reducción del presupuesto del PAMI y la suspensión del Plan Remediar, lo que podría agravar su situación si se demuestra su responsabilidad en este caso. La investigación también evalúa el papel de la Administración Nacional de Alimentos, Medicamentos y Tecnología Médica (ANMAT) y el Instituto Nacional de Medicamentos (INAME), ya que estos entes tienen la misión de supervisar la calidad de los medicamentos en el país. Un dictamen de la fiscalía sobre esta cuestión es inminente.
El caso se inició con una denuncia de la ANMAT en mayo de 2025, después de que se detectaran microorganismos en ampollas de fentanilo en el Hospital Italiano de La Plata. A pesar del aviso temprano, la reacción oficial fue lenta, permitiendo que el lote contaminado circulara durante días. El juez Kreplak ha señalado deficiencias en el proceso de producción en Laboratorios Ramallo, destacando la violación de las buenas prácticas de fabricación, lo que incrementó el riesgo de contaminación del medicamento.
Las últimas acciones judiciales han detallado cómo las fallas sistemáticas en Laboratorios Ramallo, incluyendo registros documentales falsificados, contribuyeron a la crisis. Las inspecciones previas habían revelado incumplimientos graves de las normas de esterilidad, ignoradas en el proceso de fabricación del fentanilo. Estas irregularidades configuraron un descontrol que resultó en una tragedia sanitaria, con al menos 90 muertes y 44 lesiones confirmadas hasta el momento.
