Un nuevo canal de televisión promete transformar en rutina una experiencia que hasta ahora parecía reservada a astronautas o científicos. Se trata de Space Live, una propuesta lanzada en el Reino Unido que transmite en directo, las 24 horas del día, imágenes de la Tierra captadas desde la Estación Espacial Internacional (EEI). El canal permite observar distintos ángulos del planeta en tiempo real.
Según informó el medio The Guardian, Space Live no sigue el formato tradicional de programas o segmentos. En su lugar, ofrece una emisión continua sin cortes, que incluye tres perspectivas: la zona de acoplamiento de la estación, un plano horizontal donde se aprecian amaneceres y tormentas, y una cámara dirigida hacia la superficie terrestre. A estas vistas se suma un rastreador digital que muestra la ubicación exacta de la EEI y un sistema de inteligencia artificial que brinda datos geográficos y meteorológicos instantáneos.
La NASA ya realiza transmisiones de este tipo en internet pero la diferencia está en la calidad de imagen 4K y en la integración de recursos visuales adicionales, fruto de una alianza entre ITV y la empresa británica Sen. El canal también incluye un background musical, pensado para acompañar la experiencia visual y reforzar el espectáculo frente a la inmensidad del planeta tierra.
Algunos críticos sostienen que dado el ritmo de la transmisión el atractivo se diluye. The Guardian señaló que el ciclo repetitivo de paisajes, el ritmo silencioso del viaje y la ausencia de eventos concretos pueden volver la señal en un acompañamiento visual relajante más que en un programa para mirar activamente.
